Ferrari has recently set out to go even further with its cars, creating a series of extremely exclusive models that also pay homage to iconic vehicles from Maranello's past. That's how the Ferrari ICONA series was born, a family of models with the philosophy of creating something different, something that doesn't exist in the market, uniting past and future, taking as inspiration some of its most famous models.

Thus, the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 were born as two barchettas inspired by classic racing models from the 50s like the F166 MM, the F750 and the F860 Monza. Now the third model in the ICONA series takes inspiration from the Sport Prototypes of the 60s, such as the mythical Ferrari F330 Daytona P4 and the 1967 F350 Can Am. Now it finally comes under the name Ferrari Daytona SP3, a spectacular and exclusive mid-engine, 'Targa' roof top supersport that revives that trio's glory in the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona in a modern car.

This new limited edition model presented at Mugello as part of the Ferrari World Finals 2021 completes a luxury trident alongside the two Monzas, paying homage to the Italian house's sportier past, but unlike its brothers, who were born on the basis of the F812 Superfast, the Daytona SP3 hides the DNA of the LaFerrari under its new bodywork, with a 6.4 liter V12 engine aspirated and mounted in a central rear position, capable of offering 840 hp of power and 697 Nm of maximum torque, reaching 9,500 rpm, coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

These figures will serve to move an exclusive super sports car that weighs a total of 1,485 kg, 60 less than the LaFerrari Aperta, and which leaves a 44/56 weight distribution. With these ingredients, this new Daytona can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and from 0 to 200 in 7.4 seconds, reaching over 340 km/h of top speed.

This base is now dressed in an attractive new body made completely of carbon fiber, which seeks to replicate the shapes of the prototypes of the 60s, with a design of voluptuous but clean shapes and with marked volumes, like the style wheel arches. from the 1960s, its wraparound windshield or its screen-style air intakes and vents with horizontal lines for a more classic look. Here the aerodynamics doesn't have any active elements or big airfoils, but there are flaps like in the models it takes inspiration from, all the aerodynamic elements are integrated in the body. The headlights even have flaps or small flaps that cover them and open when the low beam is turned on.

So as a result we have a car that takes the forms of these classic models, but looks like a brand new model. In fact, Maranello's home designer Flavio Manzoni himself made it clear by noting that the Daytona SP3 “is not a vintage-style Ferrari, it's a reinterpretation of the brand's iconic models with a new style”.

The most striking part of this set is that it is a 'Targa' type convertible, with a carbon fiber roof that is manually dismantled and you will have to leave it at home when not in use, since in fact the The tiny front trunk only has room for an emergency canvas roof. The clutch oil cooler is located on the left side of the bodywork and the engine oil cooler on the right. This, far from being an unimportant detail, is what allows this model to be given this characteristic form of a classic prototype.

“The design is marked and conditioned by the placement of radiators on the sides of the body, which allowed us to create these large double air intakes that run along the sides and create a unique and at the same time voluptuous style” highlights Manzoni.

The interior is as racing as the exterior, with seats that are integrated into the chassis, forming a single piece that integrates the center console at the same time, and that, as was already the case on the LaFerrari, the seats are not adjustable, so it will be necessary to adjust the pedals and the steering wheel.

There is no lack of a fully digital control panel with a curved 16-inch screen so you can have access to all the car's information. All this in an interior with the highest quality of materials that not only use carbon fiber in areas such as doors and thresholds, but also Kevlar. As we can imagine, being a limited edition model, the car is also very customizable through Ferrari's Taylor Made division.

This Ferrari Daytona SP3 will be limited to just 599 copies with a price tag of around 2.2 million euros, depending on the market, and will start being delivered to its lucky owners at the end of 2022 and until 2024.
